The Old Wife, Enoplasus armatus, is silver with black stripes and 2 dorsal fins. Found singly, in pairs or in schools. They are called "Old Wife" because of the grating sound they makes when stressed. Spines on the first doral are venomous.

Distribution =   Central WA, south to southern Qld.
Max size =   30cms
