This series of pictures shows the Yellow Boxfish, Ostracion cubicus, increasing stages of maturity.
top left - Juveniles are bright yellow with black spots. They are less than 2cm long and often found hiding among sea urchin spines. The spots become gradually smaller and less numerous.
top right - the spots have become white with black edges. The body has become a dull colour with bluish markings.
bottom left - .the body then becomes bright blue
bottom right - shows an old male with bumps on his face which are not unusual.
